Is online gambling illegal in the United States? That is until the passage of the Unlawful Internet Gambling Enforcement Act in 2006.  This act prohibits financial institutions in the United States from transferring money to online casinos.  This act has effectively made it very difficult for players in the US to fund their player’s accounts and has essentially put a seal of disapproval on the entire enterprise of online gambling.  This act, of course, has been met with displeasure by the online gambling community in general and has spurred plenty of debate on its own as to the intent of what the bill was supposed to accomplish.  It was a last minute add on to the Safe Port Act and it is generally argued that it was never intended to interfere and criminalize further the act of online gambling.  But unfortunately this is essentially what this act has done.

Obviously you will find that there is still a lot of discussion to be had regarding the legality of online gambling in the United States.  Rest assured the chance at this time of being prosecuted is very slim and there are a lot of casinos that still take players from the US, but be warned.
