Casino News - August 19th, 2009 - Written by Bonnie
It is quite common these days to read a story about casino gambling revenue being down and numbers coming in way lower than expected. The gambling industry has been hit hard by our struggling economy and the quarterly numbers show it. Americans have a hard enough time finding ways to budget for every day needs, let alone entertainment. But things could very well be looking up for the state of Louisiana as they have had quite a marked improvement for gambling revenue in the month of July. Louisiana casinos showed an increase in revenue of nearly $27 million from the $193.4 that was reported in June, which is a 13.9 % increase.
Although the numbers were up for the month of July, gambling revenue is still down from what it was this time last year.
"In many states, their year over year numbers are being destroyed this year because of the economy," said observer Landon Grotes, "but also in many states they are losing revenue from month to month, so the fact that Louisiana had an increase in business from June is a good thing."
Revenue numbers that were released on Tuesday did not include figures from Indian casinos, which caused mixed results depending on casino locations. All over the country, casinos are suffering from revenue and profit continuing to decrease due to the economy. Cities such as Vegas, Atlantic City, and the states Pennsylvania, Connecticut and New York have all seen the side effects of a struggling economy and have shown no promise for a quick turn around. With consumers having less money to travel with and less money to spend on entertainment purposes, it can only be expected that it will get much worse before it gets better.
