Macau Revenues Decrease, Still Remains Stable

Casino News - July 20th, 2009 - Written by Glen

Macau is a gambling giant in the east, considered by some to be the Las Vegas of Asia, and they have recently seen a decline in certain types of gambling. Despite the decline, stability is still a common theme amongst their gross revenue.

In 2008, 108,772 million units were collected from games of fortune. So far this year Macau has brought in a total of 51,427 million across the first two quarters. Being that this is just under half of what was made in the four quarters of last year, it is safe to assume Macau will not see that sharp a decrease in overall revenue - afterall, one cannot expect a rise every single year.

Horse racing may see a significant drop in income, but Greyhound racing has been on the rise. In 2008, Greyhound racing brought in a total of 186 million patacas, and so far this year it has already generated 105 million. If the trend continues, Macau could see an overall increase in gross revenue from Greyhound racing. Horse racing revenues have not even reached a third of what the game generated last year.

Lottories are amongst the other forms of betting that have witnessed stability over the past few months. Sports betting lottories, as well as the chinese and instant lottories, have remained relatively stable. Trends seem to be continuing from last year overall, and the Macau gambling market continues to expand. If the figures continue to rise, Macau may over take the world wide gambling industry, despite the recession.
