Ohio residents are starting to warm up to the idea of casino gambling, according to a poll taken there recently. The poll showed that 58% are in favor of a casino in one of the larger cities. This is especially odd coming from Ohio due to it's usual conservative views on things like gambling, but perhaps Toledo's recent economic toll, it's not so surprising. Toledo is where the jeep factory is located, and due to the auto industries recent bad luck, has been shut down. Cleveland has also felt this economic shift, as the largest bank in Ohio, National City, has been overtaken by PNC.
A casino would also bring in jobs for Ohio residents, in fact there is a group by the name of Ohio Jobs and Growth, who welcome that sort of thinking. He has rallied people together to attempt to bring forth a ballot to try to initiate the construction of four new casinos in the cities of Cincinnati, Cleveland, Columbus, and Toledo. If this were to happen, it would create somewhere around 20,000 jobs. If a casino were built, it would bring somewhere around $1.8 billion to the state every year.
Everyone is feeling the affects of the current economy, and building a new casino would not only help generate some state revenue, but it would also bring more people in, and in a state like Ohio where they depend on tourism, that would certainly help. Building a new casino would also help create some more jobs, and bring the state some money in. Ohio is perhaps not becoming less conservative, just more desperate.
