Eyes on Ohio for Casino Gambling Ballot

Casino News - November 3rd, 2009 - Written by Glen

casinoNovember Third has been a hot date for Ohioans, as this is the culmination of months of protesting, supporting, and pushing for the casino gambling issue within the state. As one of the states with a weakened economy, Ohio is grasping for straws to help repair the ailing communities, and casino gambling has been at the front of the line to fix the issue.

While many other issues are on the ballot, Issue 3 is where all attention has been diverted. Neighboring states, residents, construction contractors, and potential executives and investors have something to gain or to lose from the issue, which has brought more media attention than any other issue.

Those surrounding states with their own casinos are worried, as they cannot afford to go the way of Atlantic City. Atlantic City, due partially to gambling expansion in Pennsylvania, Delaware, and other surrounding states, has been taking a heavy hit. While Kentucky, Indiana, and Illinois currently have thriving casinos, they may be impacted by the expansion of Ohio's gambling. Other opponents include the religious right, moral protesters, and those who fear the negative social impacts that casinos may or may not bring to the table.

Toledo, Cleveland, Cincinnati, and Columbus all stand to receive these casinos, should the ballot pass the issue. It has been suggested that many of the large casino companies in the nation have already been sizing up the areas, which could bring massive capital investment into Ohio. Millions of dollars are expected to be generated from these casinos on a year basis, and trickle down economics are something that many contractors in the state are looking forward too.

The ballots will open early November 3rd, and voters will have the opportunity to voice their opinion. While much gambling money has been sent outside of Ohio over the years, this may be a problem fixed. Even if the ballot fails to expand casino gambling, the best Ohio online casinos will always be an option.
