Casino News - November 19th, 2009 - Written by Glen
On November 18th, a $24,000 dollar fine was levied against the Mountainview Thoroughbred Racing Association, operators of Hollywood Casino, for allowing underage gamblers to place wagers on three different instances.
Starting July 4th, 2009, a twenty year old male accessed the gaming floor and wagered on slot machines for over an hour. Just under a month later, on August 2nd, a nineteen year old male gained entry to the gaming floor, placing wagers on slots for almost twenty minutes. Within two weeks from this second instance, an eighteen year old girl managed to wager on slot machines for over two hours.
Hollywood Casino agreed to pay the $24,000 dollar fine for the three incidents. Over the past two years, the Gaming Control Board had issued fines on six occasions for violation of the Pennsylvania Race Horse Development and Gaming Act, which states that it is unlawful for players under twenty-one years of age to gamble on slot machines. These fines totaled at $211,500.
Underage gambling has been a problem for many casinos throughout the last month, and remains an issue all throughout the United States. Iowa, New Jersey, and Missouri casinos have recently seen fines for allowing minors to play different games. Legal USA Online Casinos do not have such issues, as underage gamblers are automatically prohibited upon sign up, thus making these venues even safer with protection from minors.
