Poland May Be Next To Ban Online Casinos

Casino News - November 11th, 2009 - Written by Glen

online gamblingOn Tuesday, the Polish Government had approved a draft on a law that would limit casino operations within the member state of the European Union. The law will limit different gambling options in several ways, but online casinos may be completely tossed out the window.

The ban would limit Poland's casino choices only to the ones that are already established. This would mean that no new permits would be issued to hopeful casino operators. Another portion of the legislation would also raise taxes on the current casinos within Poland. Video lotteries would also be banned completely, leaving basic slot machines as the only option.

While still in its draft stage, the law needs the approval of both the parliament and president. Though these approvals have not yet been attained, both parties are expected to give the go-ahead on the ban. Ironically, mere weeks have passed since a scandal involving gambling and lobbying had stricken the Polish legislation with allegations.

Many residents are questioning whether or not the ban will make a difference. The United States had already tried to remove legal USA Online Casinos, yet gaming still continued. The European Union had even gone as far as to petition the World Trade Organization, all with the intent to have the United States drop the ban. The next question many might ask is what would happen to the central government of the European Union's interactions with Poland if their own member-state had placed a ban on online casino gambling, and this question may be asked as the situation unfolds.

Coincidentally, Germany may be on the way to legalizing online casinos.
