Donna Cronin, the head woman in charge of promotions for the Casino in the Yonkers Raceway, is facing troubling charges for allegedly committing fraud. It is believed that she used her authority to aid in rigging different raffle type contests to give her friends and family an edge, one that would ultimately prove victorious, in winning the prizes. It is believed she had two accomplices.
According to the reports, as provided by the Associated Press, the patsies that would go on to win were given information about a location and time that they would have to be at a certain slot machine within the casino. With the information provided, they would automatically be chosen as the winner to win electronics or cash. Paper raffles using a manually drawn number were also subject of dishonesty.
If the figures are correct, over $100,000 dollars worth of prizes was misguided by the allegedly fraudulent trio. The Raceway itself claims that the machines them selves are not rigged in any way, and new methods of security have been imposed upon the games in order to stop this sort of thing going on. The Raceway feels that the "patrons and their company were cheated", and wishes that the group of alleged fraudsters be charged to the fullest extent of the law.
If convicted, Cronin could face up to fifteen years in a penitentiary. Her charges include scheming to defraud and grand larceny. Her supposed accomplices, Alicia Murray and Terence Osborne, were given lesser charges, thus they will not be facing such harsh punishment.
