Nevada, the cultural focal point of gambling in the United States, has seen a tremendous decline in their revenues in the preceding months. April marked another month with steep drops in revenue, though some hope remains.
Nevada's Gaming Control Board put forth revenue figures from April. These reports were released last Friday. April showed earnings of $859.4 million. This is a 14% decrease from April of 2008. Last year casino's brought in over $1 billion dollars for the month. A faltering economy and a weakened economy are causing great stress amongst Casino owners in Vegas.
It has been said that the trend of people spending less has damaged the income of Casinos. Optional spending is at a low, and people are not taking vacations as much. This, coupled with the fact that casinos are beginning to shoot up all over the nation, has dropped Nevada's gambling revenues into the basement.
In the olden days, the only major outlets of gambling was Nevada and Atlantic City. The weakened economy has led states to look to gambling for a way to ease their economical burden.
