Gambling News - June 30, 2009 - Written by Bruce
There is a hot topic going on in Ohio and it is whether or not other forms of gambling will be allowed at Ohio Racetracks. The ongoing issue has yet to be resolved and could see debates possibly going into next week. Observer, Travis Hendle states "The interim budget and the extra week will give lawmakers a chance to cool down. Both sides have become extremely hostile in the gambling battle, and they needed time to let it go and start negotiating again."
The talks are backed by governor Steve Strickland, a main proponent of the issue. Ohio lawmakers are looking for this gambling expansion to help bail out other programs by increasing revenues. Though it has been voted on several times, and turned down, the Ohio state legislature has decided to take matters into their own hands, by coming to some sort of resolution that would make both sides happy.
Even though it has been turned down, time after time, there seems to be a growing support amongst Ohio state taxpayers. As recently as November, several casino gambling orginizations have presented hundreds of thousands of signatures, that would seem to suggest support of a gambling expansion.
With no resolution in sight, the issue of casino gambling in Ohio remains to be a point of concern for lawmakers as well as citizens of Ohio.
