Minnesota has backed off on their attempt to have Internet Service Providers block online gambling websites. The Minnesota legislature was considering a block of anything that was Internet gambling related, however they have since changed their stance. This is a huge win for the civil liberties enthusiasts, as well as gamblers state wide.
Having created a large legal battle, Minnesota ended up cutting losses and removing the idea from debate. With more and more regulation coming to the Internet, this has proven not only a promising start toward continued liberation, but also a sign that the people will not stand for their liberties to be infringed.
Interests groups all over the state joined to protest this crass abuse of power. Over 9,000 protesters, having been said to reach numbers nearing 15,000 took part in some way to make sure this problematic Bill would not be passed. Online gambling still has a home in Minnesota, which we can all be thankful for - once one liberty is removed, surely another comes right behind it.
The only ruling that stands in the way of online gambling now is the Unlawful Internet Gambling Enforcement Act. Thankfully, law makers are working on taking this out of the equation as well. With some luck, regulation on Internet gambling will be nipped in the bud.
