Maryland, who recently approved slot gambling within their borders, is up in arms about Delaware's recent legislation. This legislation allowed sports betting, amongst other additions, to augment their land based casinos. Maryland is of the idea that this will harm their own revenue as people flock to Delaware.
Slots are the only facet to Maryland gambling venues. Delaware will begin to feature, on top of the sport betting, roulette, craps, and blackjack. Maryland's otherwise limited choices will pale in comparison, and quick trip over the border will give Maryland residents an opportunity play the table games they want rather than the slot machines they have.
"Oh yeah, we'll definitely drive over to Delaware if it means a few games of blackjack," one Maryland resident was quoted at saying. The border is narrow and could be reached with a relatively short drive. Sadly, a couple of Maryland's slot locations are not even 25 miles away from the Delaware border. Depending on the location of Delaware's improved casinos, this could easily hamper the gambling revenue of Maryland.
Lawmakers may begin to alter legislation to match Delaware's new changes. With some luck, this could trickle down through the rest of the states and bring gambling to a head, allowing players to get in the game without going to Nevada or New Jersey.
