Gambling News - October 19th, 2009 - Written by Glen
Once were the days where drugs and alcohol were persecuted on campuses around the nation, but a new "plight" has stricken the schools around the United States. So stricken are our schools that a national task force has been formed to reduce the prevalence and incidence of student's newest vice. All across the nation, a sweep against student gambling has gripped the nation, causing crackdowns and outrageous laws to spring up in campuses nationwide.
While many colleges and universities have already placed restrictions on the possibility of gambling, some remain generally ambiguous on the issue. In a community college in northern Florida, the Student Union has an area designated for playing cards, yet school rules prohibit gambling on campus. While not actually a problem, according to school officials, the college remains steadfast in their determination to keep gambling out of campus - and this decision was made prior to the creation of the Task Force on College Gambling.
Recent increases in gambling options in the nation may have contributed to this change of pace. Between the casinos and poker rooms springing up all over the nation and the easy access to Internet gaming, students have had easier access to all forms of gambling. The boom of popularity with poker and ever consistent popularity from sporting events may have also helped to contribute, but many would also suggest that the problem did not exist until authorities created one.
Some states, most notably Arkansas, has already banned even lottery tickets on certain campuses. Regardless to as of why the Task Force was deemed necessary, it seems that we as a nation are once again tightening our grip on recreational activities. Whether it may be at a land casino or participating in Online Sports Gambling for USA Players, you will now find yourself confronted with a new group of people ready to discourage that activity in any way possible. When we questioned a student, who wished to remain anonymous, about what he thought of the task force, only one thing was clear - he must have been speaking metaphorically.
