Gambling News - October 22nd, 2009 - Written by Glen
The future of gambling locations throughout the world seems to no longer be Las Vegas, Nevada, but rather the small province of Macau. Macau has seen explosive expansion recently, and now they have once again broken their monthly revenue record. After the Chinese government had loosened restrictions on traveling visas from the mainland to Macau, an influx of tourists, and their money, had hit Macau.
Comparing the third quarter of '09 to that of the previous year showed a 22.3% increase, sporting a record high of just over 31 billion patacas, or $3.81 billion dollars. Last year's revenue for the same time frame was only 25.99 billion patacas. While the fourth quarter is expected to continue to show an increase, some changes brewing in the area may inhibit further growth.
The regulating powers that be have made it clear that they will not allow Macau to undergo unlimited expansion, and they may limit the number of casinos and table games that may exist. This is promising for those who already have their casinos established, though there are several companies that have had their eyes on Macau. There is also talk of raising the gambling age in the province from 18 to 21, which could further inhibit growth.
Though there are these potential shutdowns, Macau is also hopeful for the relaxing of visa restrictions. The government has been toying with the idea of enabling mainland residents to visit Macau with even more frequency. Another possible increase in revenue to Macau could stem from the fact that the Chinese government has recently placed a ban on Online Gambling.
