NFL News - November 10th, 2009 - Written by Scott
The Cleveland Browns have not had much success at all this season. They have fallen to 1-7 and now will face Baltimore on Monday night. The Browns are coming off their bye week , but have lost three in a row. They have shuffled quarterbacks all year and have not been able to find any consistency on the offensive side of the ball. The Baltimore Ravens, 4-4, lost 17-7 to Cincinnati on Sunday, but they are still alive in the AFC North race.
Baltimore's offense is putting up 25.8 points and 358 yards per game with their consistent play. Quarterback Joe Flacco has thrown for 2,044 yards and 12 touchdowns. They boast the 13th ranked rushing attack in the league and are led by Ray Rice and Willis McGahee. They have combined for 774 yards and 10 touchdowns. Rice is also their leading receiver and has 436 yards receiving with 1 touchdown. Wide receiver Derrick Mason has been their standout in this group and has 452 yards and 4 touchdowns.
The Ravens' defense has been stout and is only giving up 19 points per game. The strong point on this side of the ball for Baltimore has been their rushing defense. They should fare well against the pass in their game with Cleveland on Monday, as the Browns are only getting 121 yards per game through the air.
The Browns' struggling offense will now turn to quarterback Brady Quinn. Cleveland has managed just 7 touchdowns all season and are only getting 9 points per game. Quinn comes into the game with 409 yards and only 1 touchdown, but has 3 picks. Their passing attack is ranked last in the league and they are led at receiver by Mohamed Massaquoi. He has 328 yards receiving amid a group that has only 2 receiving touchdowns this year. The Browns' running attack is getting just 99 yards per game and is led by Jamal Lewis who has 349 yards. The light bulb must turn on for their offensive group in order to have a chance against Baltimore.
Cleveland is not getting much help from their defense eithe,r as they are giving up 26 points and 409 yards per game which ranks last in the league. They have shown their incapability of stopping the run and are getting pounded for 170 yards per contest. Forcing turnovers has also been an issue as they have only 10 for the year.
Baltimore will be favored by 10 1/2 at Cleveland on Monday according to BetUS sportsbook. The over/under is set at 40 and the total has gone under in 5 of Cleveland's last 7 games.
