Indianapolis Getting 7 Points And Home Dome Advantage Against Broncos

NFL News - December 8th, 2009 - Written by Bryan

coltsIndianapolis will put their undefeated record on the line as they play host to the Denver Broncos this Sunday. Coming off a 27-17 win over a red hot Tennessee Titan's team, the Colts look to continue their winning ways against a Bronco team who thrashed the Kansas City Chiefs 44-13 last week.

With the win over Tennessee, the Colts tied an NFL record with their 21st consecutive regular season win. A win over Denver on Sunday, and they can claim the record all their own.

Oddsmakers are siding with the Colts undefeated record, making them an early seven point favorite to beat the Broncos at home according to the NFL Week 14 Betting Odds. Setting the over/under at 44 1/2, oddsmakers are expecting this to be a fairly high scoring contest. Betting trends show however that Denver games have gone the under in nine of their last 12.

Colts quarterback Peyton Manning has not needed to put up 300-yards passing or more in each game, as the Colts have found multiple ways to win ball games. They have won with defense, offense, time of possession, and fourth quarter comebacks. With the win on Sunday, they also broke an NFL record with seven consecutive 12 or more win seasons.

"You try to tell these guys that when you win a couple in a row, or three or four in a row, this is not normal," said Manning. "It's not normal to win 10 or 11 or 12 games every year. But these guys that have been here five years would tell me it is normal for us. That's all they've done."

On the other sideline, this is an important game for the Denver, who currently sits at 8-4, and one game back of division leading San Diego. A win against an undefeated Colts team would go a long way to challenging the Chargers for the AFC West crown.

After a four game slide, the Broncos have rebounded nicely with back to back wins against the Giants on Thanksgiving night, and the Chiefs on Sunday.

In three of the four losses, during Denver's losing streak, Quarterback Kyle Orton failed to throw a touchdown pass. For Denver to have any chance at winning on the road this week, Orton will have to step up and make plays for his offense, something that he has been able to do these past two weeks, in which Denver has walked away for victories.

The Colt are 3-0-1 ATS the spread in their last four games. They are also 4-1 ATS in their last five games in December. Denver is a staggering 7-1 ATS the spread following a ATS win, which they got last week against Kansas City.

In a year that sports two 12-0 teams, the New Orleans Saints and the Colts, each week presents a new challenge, and more hype about the possibility of completing the perfect regular season. Indianapolis is not going to let the talk get to them.

"It will mean a lot if we look back at it after 16 games," Indianapolis linebacker Clint Session told reporters. "Right now, it really means nothing to us. We're just trying to win every game we play."
