NFL News - September 18th, 2009 - Written by Scott
The New York Giants will travel to play the Dallas Cowboys on Sunday in a great NFC matchup. The game will take place in the Cowboy's new $1.15 billion stadium for Dallas' home opener in their new venue. Both teams are coming into the game with wins in week one. The Cowboys have won four of the last five against the Giants, including last year's meeting, winning 20-8 in December. These two NFC East rivals will be looking to go 2-0 on the year and at least possibly share first place in the division for now. One interesting question about this game is that will either kicker be able to hit the HD screens that hang in the middle of the field? The league had to alter their rules if this should happen. If it does, there will be an immediate whistle and the down will be replayed with no time coming off the clock.
If the Cowboys were missing receiver Terrell Owens in last week's game against Tampa Bay, they definitely were not showing it. Dallas quarterback Tony Romo passed for 353 yards and 3 touchdowns. The Cowboys also picked up 118 yards rushing and were led by Marion Barber's 79 yards an 1 touchdown. The rushing defense is where things get a little shaky. Against the Bucs, they gave up a total of 450 yards with 174 of these coming on the ground. In last year's meeting with the Giants, they surrendered 200 yards rushing in the game. One bright spot is that the Cowboys have had great success getting to Giants quarterback Eli Manning. In their past two games against New York, they have sacked Manning twelve times, including eight in their last meeting.
In the Giants close game last week against the Redskins, Manning was consistent as usual as he completed 20 of 29 passes for 256 yards and 1 touchdown. They also bring a great rushing attack lead by bruising running back Brandon Jacobs. Their defense looked good in week one as they held Tampa Bay to just 272 total yards and had three sacks. They also forced a fumble on one of these sacks and returned it 37 yards for a touchdown. The Giants also will be welcoming linebacker Michael Boley who was suspended from the first game for violating the league's personal conduct policy.
They Cowboys will be favored at home by 3 with an over/under set at 44 1/2 according to BetUS. One interesting prop bet in this game is will the Cowboys break the NFL attendance mark of 103,467. Odds for over is set at +110 and the under at -150.
