Lions at Bears -- There's nothing that could be said that would bring the Lions down right now. Not the fact that one win a season still puts you at the front of the line in next year's draft. Not the fact they are still way behind in their division.
And not that they are double-digit underdogs when they go to Chicago Sunday. BetUS gave the Bears an early -10 1/2-point line with an over/under of 39. It is a reality check, of sorts, after winning their first game in 20 tries. The Lions finally broke through with a wire-to-wire lead of the Redskins and sent Detroit fans home with a smile for the first time in nearly three years. Rookie Matthew Stafford was nearly perfect Sunday, avoiding an interception for the first time in his career.
But he will be facing a far superior defense this Sunday. The Bears rank ninth in total defense after losing anchor Brian Urlacher for the season.
Jay Cutler is slowly assimilating with the team after his disasterous four-pick opener in Green Bay. He has since led Chicago to two come-from-behind wins over Pittsburgh and Seattle, hitting Devin Hester with a game-winning touchdown pass to win the latter. He has only thrown one interception in the two previous games.
The Lions are a surprsing 2-2 against the Bears in the last two seasons, winning twice in '07 by an average of 9.5 points.
