Bills Giving Six at Home

NFL News - October 5th, 2009 - Written by John

billsCleveland nearly got it's first win of the season last week when they surprisingly took Cincinnati down to the wire. Derek Anderson was much better in his first start of the season after being picked off three times last week. He threw for 269 yards and scored twice and the Browns weren't blown out for the first time in '09, a fair enough result for fans to come away somewhat optimistic.

Not enough for the oddsmakers though. The Browns are receiving six points, according to an early line on BetUS, against the Buffalo Bills, who have sputtered since blowing a two-touchdown lead against the Patriots in Week One.

Both teams have allowed over 100 points this season, part of only eight teams with that distinction so far. They haven't done nearly enough to account for it on offense. The Bills only have 74 points while the Browns scored all of 49. Cleveland didn't get it's first offensive touchdown of the year until this past Sunday when Anderson hit Steve Heiden with a one-yard pass with just over a minute remaining in the first half. The thought here, at least in Vegas, is that the defenses will be the unit to falter with a 40 1/2-point over/under.

Meanwhile, the Bills have had problems on offense, as well. They only have 17 total points in their last two games and the irritation of Terrell Owens is beginning to surface. He blankly said that he has no comment on the play calling and is fifth on the team in receptions. Running back Fred Jackson has 10 more catches than T.O. Part of the problem, he will forget to remind you, is that he has one of the lowest catch rates in the league (38%), many of which would have gone for big gains.

After starting the season well, quarterback Trent Edwards' completion percentage has plummeted to 59-percent, and he has as many interceptions (5) as he does touchdowns.
