NFL News - October 27th, 2009 - Written by Scott
Brett Favre will get his second chance in less than a month to get another win over his old team as the Minnesota Vikings travel to play the Green Bay Packers on Sunday. The Packers suffered one of their two losses to the Vikings earlier this month 30-23. The Vikings were handed their first loss of the season on Sunday by Pittsburgh 27-17. The Packers routed the Cleveland Browns on Sunday 31-3. This game is important for both teams and should provide an emotional return to Lambeau Field for Favre. The Vikings are one game ahead of the packers in the NFC North. A win by Green Bay would give them a share of the lead.
Despite outgaining the Steelers in their loss, the Vikings' two turnovers turned out costly, as both were returned for touchdowns. Favre, who has passed for 1,681 yards and 12 touchdowns this year, threw his third interception of the year which was returned 82 yards for a touchdown with just 1 minute remaining in the game. They will need to improve on last weeks' rushing performance as they were held to just 89 yards on the ground. Adrian Peterson leads their running attack with 687 yards and 8 touchdowns. Sidney Rice is their leader at receiver with 545 yards and 2 touchdowns. Minnesota is capable of putting up points as they are averaging 29.4 which 3rd in the league.
Defensively the Vikings have been strong this year and showed their dominance last week after holding the Steelers to just 259 yards and 17 points. They only forced one turnover last week but have 17 on the year. They are also ranked 10th in the league in rushing defense and are allowing 95 yards a game.
The Packers rank in the top third off all offensive categories and are averaging 26.8 points per game. Green Bay is led on offense by quarterback Aaron Rodgers. He has passes for 1,702 yards and 2 touchdowns this year, but more importantly, he has only thrown 2 interceptions on the year. Their running attack is led by Ryan Grant who has rushed for 495 yards and 3 touchdowns. Rodgers favorite receiver has been Donald Driver this season and he has 479 yards and 3 touchdowns.
NFL Betting is just getting good as we head in to week 8 of the 2009 NFL season. Green Bay brings one of the best defenses in the league and are only allowing 16 points and 271 yards per game. They will need to keep their pace this Sunday against the explosive offense that the Vikings will bring.
Despite losing to the Vikings earlier this month by 7, the Packers will be favored by 3 on Sunday according to Betus Sportsbook.
