NFL News - November 23rd, 2009 - Written by John
The Buffalo Bills lost more than just a conference game last week. During the 18-15 defeat at the hands of the Jacksonville Jaguars, two starting offensive lineman and starting running back Marshawn Lynch were sidelined by freak injuries that will cost two a few games, and the other his season.
Left guard Seth McKinney tore his meniscus and will be inactive for at least a couple weeks and may even miss the balance of the season.
Lynch carted off the field when he injured his shoulder, although he told ProFootballTalk that he should be fine. He will still undergo an MRI on Monday, and if any damage is seen, Fred Jackson will again play in his place after serving as the team's primary back while Lynch served a four-game suspension to start off the 2009 NFL Season.
But the most gruesome injury of the day, and probably the year, came when right guard Eric Wood's left leg was snapped in half below the knee. CBS reportedly refused the show a replay of the injury because of it's horrific nature, but there are several websites, of course including YouTube, that have the replay available.
The injury occurred when 6-foot-2, 302-pound defensive tackle Montavious Stanley went diving at quarterback Ryan Fitzpatrick in the pocket. Fitzpatrick moved a few steps forward to evade the sack, leaving Wood's leg vulnerable as Stanley rolled on it. Wood, according to Sporting News, did not follow the team home and instead was rushed to the hospital for emergency surgery.
Wood was a first-round pick by the Bills in the most recent draft, going 28th overall, but now finds himself on the Buffalo Bills Injury Report.
The injuries leave just five healthy linemen on Buffalo's roster and another giant headache in a season that just won't end. Reports have swirled that head coach Perry Fewell will call up Christian Gaddis from the practice squad, and the team will use it's eighth-different arrangement on the offensive line.
Terrell Owens finally broke out for 197 yards, including a 98-yard touchdown, which was good news.
