NFL News - November 22nd, 2009 - Written by Jimmy
In a season marred by injuries, Pittsburgh Steelers' all-pro safety Troy Polamalu's season has been put on the shelf once again. After suffering a strained knee ligament last week against the Cincinnati Bengals, Polamalu will be out today, and ESPN is reporting that he will likely miss up to a month.
Polamalu was hurt when he raced into the backfield to make a tackle on Cedric Benson. As he lassoed Benson, two teammates piled on top, falling on the side of the safety's knee.
Although it will not need any surgery, it is simply another frustration to a season that seems to get longer and longer. Polamalu was already deactivated for a handful of games earlier in the year when almost the exact same thing happened to him in the season opener against the Tennessee Titans. In that game, Polamalu was making a tackle on receiver Kenny Britt when a teammate came in hot and struck the side of his knee.
Baltimore's Terrell Suggs will also be out of this week's game against the Indianapolis Colts due to a similar injury. Suggs was on the losing end of the Quinn-gate controversy last Monday when Brady Quinn cut him low after an interception.
Suggs was sidelined for the rest of that game, and an MRI revealed minor damage in the knee. As a result, he will miss at least three games, including the Ravens' match-up against the Steelers in Week 14.
As the Atlanta Falcons try to put a stop to their plummet in the NFC South standings, they will be without it's leading rusher today against the New York Giants. Both teams come into the game desperate for a win to snap out of a funk, but Michael Turner won't be available to boost his team despite ambitious hopes. He was hampered by a high ankle sprain a week ago, and will have to sit out today, if not longer.
