Bills' Posluszny Has Broken Arm

NFL News - September 15th, 2009 - Written by John

Paul PoslusznyStop if you've heard this before. Team X loses a heartbreaker on the road against a division rival after leading late in the fourth quarter. Said Team X then learns that their star middle linebacker would miss a large part of his season with an arm injury.

No, this is not the Chicago Bears, but close.

Buffalo Bills coach Dick Jauron's head is still spinning from his team's inexplicable loss to New England on Monday Night football, on the receiving end of a kickoff while holding a 24-19 lead with two minutes left, only to fumble away the opener. Now, he announced today that Paul Posluszny broke his left arm in the loss and he would have to miss "several weeks" of the season.

It's not like this guy was a steel-hardened rock, though. In 2006, he broke both bones in his arm that rendered him incapable of returning at all. This time is different, he says, because he only broke one of his forearm bones.

"I should definitely be back," he told Profootballtalk.com. "From what they told me it's not an I.R. (injured reserve) thing."

Posluszny has only played in 20 games since being drafted in the second round in 2007, the main chunk of that coming last year, where he played in all 16. He was their leading tackler in '08 and was key in the Bills' opening loss Monday before exiting, lead the team in tackles with six. Buffalo's defense in all was surprisingly good for three-and-a-half quarters, holding the Patriots to only 10 points before Tom Brady threw two touchdown passes in the game's final two minutes.

Profootballtalk.com mentions that the Bills may be after Pat Thomas, whom they released at the end of camp, as a replacement for Posluszny. With the Bears also incidentally in the market for a middle linebacker, the Bills also might try to steal away Derrick Brooks.

Another choice is Napoleon Harris, who was cut by the Oakland Raiders late in camp.
