NFL News - September 25th, 2009 - Written by John
Only two weeks into the season and a few big names are finally starting to show some wear. Only minor bumps and bruises, but you better believe you will hear about every one of them after the Brett Favre fiasco slugged the Jets. That said, here's a few key roster notes you may want to know before choosing your games.
- Vikings running back said that the injury to his back is "not a big deal" on ESPN Thursday. This coming after he was banged up a little bit last week against the Lions. He ran for 92 yards in the game and leads the league in rushing yards thus far. Without him, the Vikings could easily be underdogs against the 49ers, the surprise team of the NFL so far. The team's leading tackler, E. J. Henderson, was also held out of practice this week with a sore shoulder. He, too, is expected to be ready. The Vikings should still have their hands full whether the two are good-to-go, but I'm still drinking the Kool-Aid.
- Mark Sanchez is complaining about some mild tendinitis in his knee but will be fine for their Week Three game against the Titans. According to ESPN, Sanchez was seen grabbing at his knee several times during practice.
"It's not that big a deal," Ryan said. "He has something. I don't know how to describe it than just to say it's a little tendinitis. But, he's fine. I mean, he fully participated and moved around great, I thought."
Of course the Jets wouldn't be caught dead leaving any ailing player of the injury report.
"Make sure he's on that list," joked Ryan to reporters.
- After toiling in the depth chart for years, and being told he would be on the bubble heading into training camp, Michael Huff is finally making strides to justify his first-round selection. He is back in the lineup for the Raiders this week, taking over for Hiram Eugene. Huff has three interceptions so far, more than his previous three years in the league combined.
- After being one of the millions to pick off Tony Romo last week, safety Kenny Phillips suffered a catastrophic knee injury last week against the Cowboys. Reports have rifled through news outlets that Phillips, who has as many interceptions as games this year (2) has patella femoral arthritis and will miss the season. ProFootballTalk is even reporting Phillips may never play again. The Giants, justifiably concerned about their monetary investment in the player, have publicly avoided addressing those concerns. Instead, they have said their main worries are about his emotions after learning of the injury.
"Unfortunately, it's a difficult time for all of us and for Kenny," head coach Tom Coughlin said. "Our concerns are about Kenny from an emotional standpoint, because this morning he looked like he'd lost his best friend. He's really down. But it's something the doctors felt was needed to be corrected right now, so what's in the best interest of the player is being done. I'm sure he'll rehab and be back with us in the spring."
