NFL News - September 3rd, 2009 - Written by John
The Winnipeg Blue Bombers announced Wednesday that they are no longer interested in acquiring Adam "Pac Man" Jones.
"We have completed our assessment and due diligence and at this time we will not be pursuing the services of Adam Jones," Blue Bombers head coach Mike Kelly told ESPN.
The dismissal will certainly allow the Bombers to avoid the constant media circus that was sure to ensue. Jones has been unemployed ever since the Cowboys released him in February due to off-field issues. Their experiment with the troubled player resulted in only 31 tackles in limited time last year and a punt return average of only 4.5 yards.
Jones turns 26 in September and will probably now have to turn his attentions to the UFL, an upstart league set to compete with the NFL. The UFL has four-teams and will play an abbreviated schedule in October.
The rumor mill was spinning earlier this week when it was reported that Jones was headed to Canada to play for the Bombers in the CFL after signing a one-year contract.
At the time, Winnipeg director of player personnel, John Murphy, told Sports Illustrated "from a marketing standpoint, a business standpoint and a football standpoint, I could go to 100 NFL training camps and every preseason game and more people will hear and know about the Winnipeg Blue Bombers in the next two weeks -- from the coverage we'll receive -- than in the last 10 years."
