NFL News - September 4th, 2009 - Written by John
It's one of the best ways for a team to inject a little extra adrenaline into it's audience. Midway through a crucial drive. Stadium speakers pouring out music. Out comes the news that you are standing among fans that occupy every seat in the house, sending the sellout crowd over the edge.
Well, the announcement only works if the attendance is something to be proud of.
The Jacksonville Jaguars are no longer announcing how many people have come through the gate this year until they can sell enough tickets. Amidst rumors that many of it's games will be blacked out, it was reported in the Florida Times Union that Jacksonville sold a record-low number of tickets for the preseason finale against the Washington Redskins.
Jacksonville Municipal Stadium has room for 67,164 people but only managed to draw in 39,942 for the final game Thursday night, said Vito Stellino of the Times-Union. The news leaves the Jaguars front office scrambling for ways to fill its seats. The area has been hit hard by financial landmines recently, leaving many to wonder what will happen for NFL games in destitute areas.
A total of 12 other teams are in jeopardy of having some of their games blacked out this season, the NFL reported. Among those teams was the AFC West Champion San Diego Chargers, which is known for having attendance issues in the past.
