NFL News - September 20th, 2009 - Written by John
It was only a matter of time.
In Brett Favre's NFL-record 271st straight start, the Minnesota Vikings rallied to send Detroit into the record books.
Despite falling behind 10-0 early to the Detroit Lions, Adrian Peterson took his team on his shoulders, picking up 116 total yards to give Minnesota a 27-13 win on Sunday. The Lions tied the second longest losing streak with now its 19-straight.
The Lions pulled ahead early, however, picking up a field goal on their second drive of the game. Then, in the second quarter, rookie Matthew Stafford threw his first career touchdown when he hit Calvin Johnson on a slant for a 8-yard score.
But that would only last so long and eventually the more athletic Vikings took over, scoring 27 unanswered points.
Favre started the scoring barrage with a 1-yard pass to Visanthe Shiancoe to make it 10-7 at the half. Following a Ryan Longwell field goal, Peterson busted through the Detroit backfield and took it 27 yards to pay dirt with seven minutes left in the third quarter to give the Vikings their first lead of the game.
Favre would then finish it off in the fourth quarter when he hooked up with Percy Harvin for a three-yard score.
Favre finished a sterling 23 of 27 for 155 yards, while his counterpart, Stafford, improved from last week's three interception performance against the Saints, throwing for 152 yards and his score to Johnson.
