The Steelers Look To Win Back To Back Superbowls

The 2008 Superbowl Champion Pittsburgh Steelers, became the first team in NFL history to win 6 Superbowl rings.  Accomplishing the task with the hardest schedule on paper, to start the 2008 NFL season.  The Steelers much like, AFC power house the New England Patriots, believe not in off season free agency acquisitions to build a strong unit of players.  Rather the Steelers and the Patriots have become accustom to drafting players with the intent on keeping the players with the team as long as possible.  No wonder why the Patriots and Steelers have won 5 Superbowl's combined, sense the 2001 season. 

The Steelers come back to the 2009 season with targets on their backs, as the number one squad all other teams want to beat.  Lucky for the Steelers They come back to the 2009 season with the same team that made it to the Superbowl minus two players.  Of the 22 starters that finished the season 12-4 and rushed through the playoffs to reach the Superbowl, only linebacker Larry Foote and Corner Back Bryant McFadden departed to other teams.  Some would consider the lost of two defensive starters to be a problem in the NFL, however the Steelers have LB Lawrence Timmons, Drafted Three years ago out of Florida State University ready to become a starter. 

The Steelers proved again last year, that in football defense wins Superbowl's.  The Steelers ended the 2008 campaign Number one in almost every defensive category, 1st in points allowed at 13.9, 1st in yards allowed at 237.2, and 1st in passing yards allowed at 156.9.  O yea and finished 2nd in rushing yards allowed per game at 80.2.  With Ben Roethlisberger returning for his 6th season, already having won two Superbowl rings, the steelers just might explode on the offensive side of the ball in 2009.  Both RB Fast Willie Parker and RB Rashard Mendenhall come into the 2009 season healthy as well as all five returning Offensive line starters and the.  Long time wide receiver Hines Ward comes back for another run at the super bowl and surprise wide out Santonio Holmes who made the big catch to win the Superbowl in 2008, returns as the teams lead wide Receiver.  The steelers are the team to beat in 2009, we will just see if some one can actually beat them.
