Poker News - July 6, 2009 - Written by Bonnie
We have finally reached the event that thousands of poker players have been trying to make their way to for over a month. The main event of the 2009 WSOP is the most watched event in poker. Players and spectators come from all over the world to watch some of the most skilled poker players battle it out hand after hand. This years main event brought out a large number of hopefuls, all with the same goal in mind, walking away the last man standing. Among those players was a name we have heard a lot of throughout the events of the 2009 World Series of Poker. Jeffrey Lisardo is not stranger to the table and certainly has done well for himself this go round. Lisardo is one of only 5 players to win 3 bracelets in one single World Series of Poker.
Lisardo climbed his way up the ladder by winning small pots, antes and keeping his patience under control even though he had faced and lost to several of his current competitors in previous matches. Lisardo is quoted as saying, " A couple people tried to bluff me. I wasn't playing that fast and I was expecting them to try and bluff me because I was playing pretty weak. They were all easy calls". Lisardo has great control over his game and is able to read other players well enough to predict how the cards will play. Sometimes time is truly on your side and not rushing play can prevent damaging results.
The main event is the best of the best poker players and its no surprise that we hear names such as Joe Cada, Tyler Patterson, Sebastien Stier, Chance Kornuth and Ariel Schneller , which just so happen to be the very 5 players sitting just ahead of Lisardo. Ending Day 1C, Cada hold the unofficial chip lead with a remarkable 187,000 , hot on his tracks is Tyler Patterson with 179,500. Lisardo will hold the 6th posistion with a chip count of 147,000.
An astonishing 1696 players made up Day 1C of the 2009 World Series of Poker which to date, is the largest of the main events. Over 2500 players, which is just about full capacity, are expected to show up for Day 1D. Although we are used to seeing Lisardo at the final tables, the main even is full of poker players that carry remarkable and challenging skills. As we expect to see great things from Lisardo and hundreds of other poker players, we can only watch in anticipation as action of the main event resumes again today.
