Darvin Moon is a very unlikely chip leader heading into November's WSOP Main Event final table. Even Moon himself will be the first to tell you that he is probably the weakest player left in the tournament despite having twenty four million chips more than the second largest stack. With just under fifty nine million chips he has a clear cut chip advantage over his opponents which would make most people boast about how they are one of the strongest players remaining. Yet Moon has repeatedly said that he is where is at because he was simply luckier than his opponents. In an interview Moon reiterated this point saying,"I'm not all that good, I'm just lucky and got the good cards."
This has been a magical run for a man who runs a tiny logging company in Maryland. In March, Moon won his seat to the Main Event in a satellite tournament at the Wheeling Island Casino poker room. Now after surviving a difficult eight days of play, Moon is the betting favorite to win the whopping $8.5 million first prize. Odds makers have Moon listed at 3-1 to win the Main Event ahead of the second favorite Eric Buchman who is second in chips and listed at 9-2 to win. What a remarkable run Moon has had to put him in such a envious position. All of the top poker players in the world would love to be in the position that Moon is in.
Despite being guaranteed over $1.2 million just for making the final table, Moon has resumed his normal life during the four month layoff until the final table begins. He has returned to work and said that he will continue to run his business. The four month layoff has given him and the other players a chance to get some rest before their much anticipated return on November 7th. Moon has said that he will not sign with any sponsors preferring to do things on his own terms. He said that he will likely play in the world series again next year but will ultimately resume his normal routine back in Maryland. It will be exciting to see if this small town amateur can continue his magical run and win poker's most prestigious tournament..
