Gambling News - June 23, 2009 - Written By Bonnie
The time has come and gone for all you Omaha game lovers who have been awaiting event 40 of the 2009 WSOP, the Pot Limit Omaha World Championship. Over 294 of the greatest pot limit Omaha players in the world showed up at this $10,000 buy in tournament, all in hopes of making it to the end and being named the best of the best. Among those players were well known names such as Barry Greenstein, David Benyamine, Scott Clements, Jason Mercier, Vanessa Selbst, Lee Watkins, and Erik Seidel. The first day was quite an exhausting day for players and they seemed to be fading fast in the early stages of the tournament but Noah Schwartz certainly was in for the long run as he ended day one as chip leader with a count of 292,600.
117 players were left remaining as day two went under way. It seemed that players were dropping off quite rapidly at this stage in the tournament and that continued right up until the final table was set. The final match up would be against Matt Graham and Vitaly Lunkin and was sure to be a grueling battle. Starting out the head to head match on a even chip count, Graham had difficulty keeping himself on top. Several up and downs throughout this final match up left Graham with a continuous fight to end this tournament as winner. After regaining his composure with many double up hands, it seems as if the cards began to fall in his favor. It was not long after that the the right moves put Graham in just the right position against Lunkin and he was left as the last man standing.
Graham earned himself a nice payday of over $650,000 and walks away with the WSOP gold bracelet.
