Michael Davis entered event 43 of WSOP, the Seniors NL Hold'em World Championship, against 2706 other poker players but at the end of this 3 day event it was David who was left the last man standing. This $1000 buy in was the largest Seniors NL Hold'em World Championship ever to take place. Last years event brought out a smaller number of 2218 competitors resulting in a 22% increase from 2008 to 2009. One requirement of this event is that all participants be 50 years of age or older.
Davis started off this tournament with a low stack of chips, but that did not keep him from holding his own. One by one Davis knocked out players taking their chips along the way. Davis managed to survive through three gruelling days of play, making it to the final table where he would find his final opponent, Scott Buller. Buller help chip leader position for a majority of the time spent at the final table and it was not until 10 minutes before the final hand that Davis made his move and took control over Buller. The final hand left Davis the new champion which earned him a payday of $437,358 and a 2009 WSOP gold bracelet.
