Gambling News - June 23, 2009 - Written By Bonnie

After three long days of play, the chance at a 2009 WSOP gold bracelet has come and gone for 2714 players of event 39 of the 2009 WSOP. Ray Foley was named champion of event 39 and walked away with a cool $657,969. This native of Michigan pushed his way through day 1 noticing where his skills shined and where he needed to step it up in order to earn his spot at the final table. Day two showed much improvement as he held chip lead at one point. Back and forth throughout the day, his determination kept in the running only slipping from the top spot towards the conclusion of day 2.

Day three was set to be a long one as the final three tables would prove to be his biggest challenge yet. Pressing his luck time and time again, Foley reached the final table and was in company of Brandon Cantu and Alex Jacob. Foley pushed Jacob out of the tournament fairly early on, leaving the final heads up match to be played against Brandon Cantu. Only 30 minutes into the final match up did the crucial hand come into play. It was looking promising for Jacob, who was sitting with a king-nine as the flop revealed another king. The excitement for Jacob was quickly crushed when the turn came adding another ten to Foley's pocket tens, awarding him the winning hand.

Finishing an amazing three days of poker with both ups and downs, Foley is left the last man standing and the new champion of event 39 of the 2009 WSOP.
