Poker News - November 19th, 2009 - Written by Glen
A relatively unknown player, Isildur1, has been shaking up the online poker world. Having taken millions from Tom Dwan, bruising the young player's ego, he or she has caused enough of a stir to warrant a personal challenge from Dwan to Isildur, thus bringing the "durrrr challenge" to a live environment.
Isildur's up swing seems to be never ending, as the mysterious Swede has taken Dwan for $3 million, $1.5 million from Antonius, almost $1 million from David Benyamine, and half a million from Ilari Sahamies. Liberating money from the wallets of such professionals is no easy feat, and his accomplishments over these world renowned players has caused quite the stir amongst other players and fans alike.
Isuldur's luck changed one night when, as with his run in the Tolkein novel, the mysterious player was caught off guard by a lucky Patrik Antonious. Both players had been sitting on chip stacks just short of half a million dollars during a game of Pot Limit Omaha. The pot had reached $10,000 dollars before the flop hit the table, which showed a 5h-7h-Qs. A $5,000 bet from Isuldur sent Patrik to raise by $21,000, which was called by his Swedish adversary. An ace of diamonds dropped on the turn, which sent both players into a betting frenzy. Patrik fired $48,000 to the middle of the table, which made Isildur1 drop $192,000 as a raise. Antonious, taking advantage of the situation, shoved the entirety of his chips toward the center - $415,000 dollars. Isildur1 made his call, matching Antonious's push, bringing the pot to a total of $878,958. Patrik revealed Ah-Qc-9s-6h, while Isuldur showed his As-Ks-Qd-10h. When the board showed an 8d on the river, Antonious took the massive, record breaking pot with a nine high straight.
