Poker News - October 20th, 2009 - Written by Glen
The Absolute Poker network is renowned for their oddball promotions, many of which offer players a once in a life time opportunity, and their latest craze is no different. Their specialized tournament, aptly named "The Epic Nine," will give eight players a chance to square off against the poker brat himself - Phil Hellmuth.
Whether you love him or hate him, many players dream of having a chance to be seated at a table with Hellmuth or, better still, show him up on his battlefield. Perhaps a bittersweet fruit from which to bite, a player who has joined the contemptuous crowds against Hellmuth will love the opportunity that Absolute Poker is offering all of their players.
A prize pool of $50,000 dollars is up for grabs, with the top three players taking $25,000, $15,000, and $10,000 dollars respectively. As an added perk, a bounty has been placed on Hellmuth's head - any player who busts Phil out will receive a ticket to enter a $200,000 dollar event.
Qualification for this tournament can come through many methods, allowing players of all facets an opportunity. Be you a cash player or a tournament player, there will be an opportunity to join in the Phil Hellmuth beat down. Climbing the ranks of Absolute Poker's frequent player program will be necessary for cash game players. Two freerolls will be held for qualification, and those cash players who reach Silver or Gold FAME status will be invited to one of the two freerolls. The winner of the freeroll tournament will take a seat at the final table. The winner of the multi-table tournament leaderboard for the month will automatically be invited to the final table as well. The Sit and Go leaderboard winner will also receive automatic entrance to the final table.
The entire month of October is dedicated to this series, giving players the remainder of the month to climb the ranks and have a chance at $25,000 dollars cash and the ability to say that they have played with Phil Hellmuth, and perhaps even beaten him. Pride and money always mix well, and this tournament will exemplify this notion perfectly.
