Poker News - October 18th, 2009 - Written by Glen
In late October, players from around the world will have an opportunity to square off with one of the biggest names in the professional poker industry. Five time World Series of Poker champion Scotty Nguyen will be the featured pro at the 2009 All-Star Poker Challenge, giving players a chance to square off with the Prince of Poker in a tournament with over $50,000 dollars up for grabs.
On Saturday, October 24th, the games will begin. Anyone above the age of 21 can join, and twenty players will be paid. One hundred and twenty entrants are being taken, running with a buy-in of $560 dollars. Ten-thousand tournament units are given to each player, and every round will last thirty minutes. The tournament should run no longer than Sunday, October 25th.
Spotlight 29 Casino is hosting the event. Located near Los Angeles, California, Spotlight 29 is massive casino, fully loaded with many of the most popular table games, a huge entertainment room, dining and nightlife choices, and even a buffet. Their newly established card room, the Spotlight Poker Room, is hosting the event. As an added perk, any player who makes ten full houses in a day of playing will be offered a free ticket for tournament access.
Nguyen has won over $10 million dollars in live winnings, five WSOP bracelets, 37 total WSOP cashes, 13 money finishes in WPT, and one money finish in the European Poker Tour. Players entering the tournament will invariably have their work cut out for them, but the entertainment value of playing with one of the bigger names in the industry should out weigh the threat of Nguyen's skill.
