Negreanu falls to Shulman in WSOPE

Poker News - October 3rd, 2009 - Written by Glen

barryThe World Series of Poker Europe was weeks in the making, and the final table of the WSOP-E came to a conclusion after a final table that held multiple WSOP champions, including Daniel Negreanu, Matt Hawrilenko, Jason Mercier, and Barry Shulman. After nearly a week of intense competition, Barry Shulman took down the win, as well as the bracelet.

Shulman took home his second bracelet from the World Series of Poker after besting multiple professional players. Jason Mercier was the favored player, but his beginning of the day lead crumbled after holding strong with a chip stack of over three and a half million. Mercier took third place, as well as over 260,000 GBP, but was crushed by Negreanu, who had a considerably smaller stack. This gave Negreanu the advantage entering heads-up play with Shulman, but Shulman ultimately prevailed.

Negreanu knocked out seven players at the final table, but could not stand against the unwavering luck held by Barry Shulman. Shulman held strong, battling Negreanu with every stroke of luck that it would take to persevere and prevail in the WSOP-E. The game ran into the earliest hours of the morning, but only Shulman, owner of Cardplayer Magazine, could hang in the game, and thus he won his second WSOP bracelet.

In just over a month, the World Series of Poker Vegas will continue, allowing the illustrious November Nine a chance at the bracelet. As poker continues to rise in popularity, the World Series of Poker continues to grow. The WSOP aims to expand its reach further into the world, emphasizing the W in the WSOP. Only time will tell how the game in November will end.
