Poker News - October 10th, 2009 - Written by Glen
Many poker players refuse to play online, despite the convenience, due to the fact that they do not feel safe. Whether it is from the threat of a hack, the threat of a government seizure, or the threat of cheaters, some card fans will always be hesitant to join in on the millions of people playing online poker around the world. The Flash Poker Network, one of the larger chains of online poker rooms, recently had to deal with a weak link in that chain - Pitbull Poker.
Pitbull Poker was one of the smaller sites on the Flash Poker Network, but carried a healthy player base and some very respected players on the online poker circuit. In late July, one of these respected players posted on the 2plus2 forums, one of the most active poker forums on the Net. The player had stated that he had allegedly found proof that Pitbull Poker was operating with an active Superuser, thus biasing the games. The situation came to a head when two of the site's owners had allegedly entered the building in which Pitbull operates and removed a computer from the premises. Authorities were called, and since that time Pitbull Poker has been closed to the public.
Very little official word has been given, but it has been stated on their website that Pitbull Poker has indeed shut their doors. Thankfully, Pitbull is going down with dignity. Unlike a lesser poker site, all players who had a deposit may be out of luck. Thankfully, Pitbull is offering cash outs for every player, provided they follow the instructions on the site.
Instances of such an atrocity do come with a positive note, however. Because of the alleged actions here in, Players are once again shown why Online Poker should be regulated, rather than frowned upon. With millions of players scattered around the world, all logging in to play cards, and some even to make their living, certain levels of security need to be kept, and one of the main ways this could be made possible its through Federal regulation.
