Poker News - September 25th, 2009 - Written by Glen
One of the newest additions to the professional poker circuit, Tom "durrrr" Dwan has recently issued a challenge to any one who would choose to accept. The challenge will be a heads up match between the two players, each with an appropriate risk. The challenger will have to post $500,000, while Dwan will meet that three to one, offering $1.5 million dollars should his opponent be the victor.
The game will feature an interesting twist - it will a cash game, but the winner will be determined in a form of play almost, but not entirely, unlike a tournament. The rules of a ring game will apply, in that each hand is played separately, but the competition will end after 50,000 hands have been played by durrrr and his opponent. At the end of 50,000 hands, he or she who has more chips, even by one dollar, will be the winner.
Basic rules are as follows. The stakes will be a minimum of $200/$400. At any given moment, if a player is under 75 big blinds, he or she will be required to reload. The stakes will not change throughout the entire competition, so a player will not be forced to reload unless they fall below that pivotal point. The only play styles available will be No-Limit Texas Hold 'em or Pot Limit Omaha.
Tom Dwan is most famous for his entrance into the poker world. Starting with $50 dollars, Dwan capitalized on winning $6 dollar sit-and-go tournaments. Realizing his victories, he moved onto low stakes cash games, at which time he climbed to the top to join high rollers in the $500/$1,000 dollar tables. It has been alleged that since he began playing, he has never gone broke. It is estimated that Dwan is now worth over $5 million dollars from poker playing alone.
Anyone is eligible to enter this competition, provided they have the $500,000 dollar buy-in. Any Full Tilt player can participate, and they must sign up to do so. Full Tilt Poker is one of the most powerful online poker rooms, and has one of the largest player bases available. They are currently offering a 100%, $600 dollar match bonus for all new players - each of which can participate in the $1.5 million dollar challenge.
