Poker News - September 10th, 2009 - Written by Glen
Every year, a new player is inducted into the Poker Hall of Fame. Only the best, ground breaking players in the industry are entitled to indoctrination. This year's nominees include Mike Sexton, Phil Ivey, Daniel Negreanu, Dan Harrington, Tom McEvoy, Men Nguyen, Barry Greenstein, and Erik Seidel. Nine players were originally drawn, but Tom "durrrr" Dwan was dropped for the standings for not meeting the criteria to be on the ballot.
"With all due respect to Mr. Dwan, one of the game's most exciting young players, he does not currently meet the criteria for the Hall of Fame selection," said the Governing Council in a statement.
In order to be considered for the Poker Hall of Fame, a player must meet the following criteria:
- A player must have played poker against acknowledged top competition
- Played for high stakes
- Played consistently well, gaining the respect of peers
- Stood the test of time
Many fans would argue that he has succesfully met all of these criteria, as it has been reported that, since initially buying in online years ago, he has not busted out.
A five week voting process will take place on the World Series of Poker's website. Two fifteen person panels will be responsible for the decision, creating almost an electoral college of poker. Fifteen of the thirty will be the living Hall of Famers and 15 members of the media.
The winners will be announced during the final table of the 2009 WSOP main event. November 7th will mark the date that the winner is announced.
