Tomorrow will mark the beginning of the 138th Open Championship. For three days, the best that the PGA Tour has to offer will meet in Turnberry to run down 7,200 yards in efforts to be crowned the winner of the British Open. A field of 156 players will square off to take glory, recognition, and a cut of the $6,800,000 dollar purse.
Turnberry will host the Open Championship for the fourth time. After the last visit the Open paid to Turnberry, the course had been lengthened and had a par increase. Nick Price of Zimbabwe won the last Open in Turnberry, but has decided to sit out this time around, despite having received an invitation.
Tiger Woods is back, seeking to take his fourth win from the British Open. All eyes are on the Tiger, with his whole fan base cheering for his victory. Padraig Harrington is out to tie with Tiger for three wins as the British Open. If he manages to win this year, he will not only tie Woods in the number of wins, but he will also have three consecutive wins in this tournament. This will be a feat that has not been performed since Peter Thomson achieved his third consecutive win in 1956.
This is the third of the four Major championships. Winning here will guarantee a position into the PGA championship, ending out the Majors for the year. Harrington nor Woods have won a Major this year, so their hopes are high for the remaining two. Media coverage will follow the game, and all golf enthusiasts are encouraged to tune in.
