On Day one of the British open we saw American all time great Tom Watson Shoot a 5 under 65. Watson who has won the Open five times in his professional golf career didn't have the same kind of start to day 2. Watson is 4 over on his second round score card and that is after only 8 holes. Watson was questioned about his stamina and his ability to keep the lead now that he is up there on the leader board and all the questioned were answered with today's play. Watson will need a strong performance the rest of the weekend if he wants to surprise the world on Sunday.
Tiger Woods is still at 1 over but has only completed three holes in his second round of play. Tiger had a dreadful day on the tee box in his first round of play and might have to put the driver away if he wants to advance into weekend play. Don't be surprised if Tiger turns it on during the back nine after the sun finally shows it's face.
The Surprise round of golf on day two came from another American on Friday. American Steve Marino who is playing in his first ever British Open shoot a 68 today going 2 under par in his second round of golf. Combine that with his first round 67 and 3 under par and that equals your new leader in the British open after only two round. Marino has played very consistent in his two rounds of golf early in the tournament and has a strong chance to win if he can continue his play like this for two more rounds. Marino is the only player currently at 5 under but has three players at 4 under behind him including Stewart Cink who is only on the 2nd hole of the day. 6 players are at 3 under including Boo Weekley who has yet to tee off (3:26pm) in his second round of play and all have a chance to catch the leader.
The chances of an American wining the tournament look good this year as all three top leaders (Steve Marino, Mark Calcavecchia, Stewart Cink) are all American players. It's been three years since an American has won the Open tournament and the last player to do so was Tiger Woods back to back in 2005 and 2006. The chances an American will win this tournament look to be pretty high after two rounds of golf and i just hope one of us can pull it off on Sunday, even if that means Tiger has to do it again.
