The 2009 British Open is under way and Friday's 2nd Round features some great pairings that will start before americans will wake up or eat breakfast. After round one, Spain's Miguel Angel Jimenez is the leader after shooting a six under 64. The biggest story of the day was legendary golfer Tom Watson, who led for the most day shooting a five under round of 65. The 59 year old Watson has won the British Open five times in his great career. It will be exciting to see if he can stay near the top of the leaderboard for the remaining three rounds. American golfer Ben Curtis is also one back of the lead at -5. Two of the players at -4 are Steward Cink and Camillo Villegas who also played well in Round 1. Tiger Woods did not have a very good first round and is seven strokes back at +1 after having some shots that are not expected from a pro.
The 2009 British Open 2nd Round will be filled with plenty of drama but most of the USA will be in bed. With the championship being held over at Turnberry in Scotland, the 2nd Round will begin very early here in the U.S. The first tee time is set at 1:30 am Eastern with the final tee time scheduled for 11:10 am. The marquee pairing for round two of the British Open features the #1 ranked player in the world Tiger Woods and the 17 year old Japanese sensation Ryo Ishikawa. The Japanese golfing phenom faired better than Tiger and sits at -2. Their other playing partner Lee Westwood also finished at -2. The three of them will tee off Friday at 9:20 am for their 2nd Rounds. Fan favorite John Daly also had a good start to his British Open finishing at -2 as well. Daly will tee off at 4:31 am with his playing partners Paul McGinley and Carl Pettersson. Two players with some ground to make up going into the 2nd Round at +1 are Adam Scott and David Duval. The two of them are paired with Nick Dougherty and they will tee of Friday at 7:36 am. Tom Watson will look to stay near the lead when he tees off Friday at 8:09 am. Watson will be paired with Sergio Garcia and amateur Matteo Mannasero. Garcia will begin his 2nd Round six shots off the lead at even par.
Friday's British Open 2nd Round will be an exciting day of golf filled with plenty of intrigue. Can Tiger manage to shoot a low score to get back in contention after a sub par first round? Will Tom Watson continue to play the great golf that found have him among the leaders going into the 2nd Round?
