Former NFL player, Ryan Leaf, was arrested at the United States and Canadian border, Wednesday, on charges of Burglary of a Dwelling, in Texas, which is a second degree felony. Leaf, already indicted on 7 drug related charges, was said to be returning to turn himself in, in Texas, which had set a Thursday deadline for his return. On the way back to Texas, from work and drug rehabilitation in British Columbia, Leaf was detained at the border, and was held on $45,000 bond, which was posted on Wednesday, in Washington State.
Leaf, a former number 2 pick in the 1998 NFL Draft, showed a lot of promise, at Washington State University, coming into the NFL. His career never panned out, and found himself bouncing around the league. Ryan Leaf is perhaps best known for outbursts, during post game interviews, with reporters in the locker room. He had settled into a job at West Texas A&M, as a quarterbacks coach, which is where he eventually ran into trouble for taking hydrocodone from injured players.
After drug charges arose at West Texas A&M, Leaf resigned from his position, which he had filled for three seasons. Now, he faces charges for breaking into the victimized player's apartment, to obtain the prescription pain killer. At this time, no trial has been set for the latest charges again Leaf.
