Casino News - February 19th, 2010 - Written By Glen
The House rules, and not with the regulations surrounding games. The house has the best odds on nearly any game, but blackjack was one of the games that had the best advantage for the players. Colorado's casinos, however, have decided to attempt to slate the odds further in favor of the house.
The most popular pay through nearly every casino is 3 to 2 on blackjacks. This means that when a player receives a blackjack combination, the bet will return fairly high rewards. For instance, a $100 dollar bet would end with a $150 dollar reward. The Colorado casinos, however, want to change these pay outs to 6 to 5, which would significantly lower the amount of money paid back to the winner. This would make a $100 dollar wager turn a $120 dollar reward.
With casino revenue dropping almost universally around the United States, it is no wonder that some casinos have decided to make this attempt. The casinos in Black Hawk, Cripple Creek, and Central City are the casinos that have pushed this proposal. The state's gamblers, however, are speaking out against this proposal.
In Las Vegas, some tables do operate at 6 to 5 rewards, while there are even tables that give 1 to 1 pay outs on blackjack tables. These tables do, however, have different advantages. Some advantages include the ability to surrender at any time, or even one deck rather than the six to eight decks some tables operate under.
Blackjack still carries one of the lowest house advantages. Most 3 to 2 tables sport a house edge of 1.5%, while the 6 to 5 tables would boost the house edge to 2.9%. This effectively doubles the amount of money won by the house for every $100 dollars wagered from $1.50 to nearly $3 dollars.
Even if this proposal does manage to change the rules of engagement at Colorado's blackjack tables, Colorado Online Casinos will still offer the time honored 3 to 2 pay outs on a lucky twenty-one.
