Counterfeit Comps Constitute Casino Crime

Casino News - February 28th, 2010 - Written By Glen

casinoCasino comp points are a promotional tool used by many casinos, both land based and online. These comp points accumulate as player's utilize the games, and can ultimately used as real cash. A recent crime, which led to the arrest of a casino employee, involved these comp points, which are accessed by player cards.

Santos Adiel Rosado, 44, was charged with conspiracy, theft by deception, receiving stolen property, unlawful use of a computer, and access device fraud. The Sands Casino Resort Bethlehem employee had been creating fake player cards with preloaded credits. The cards would then be given to a conspirator who would then use the cards in order to play the casino's slots.

Miguel Rivera, 39, was arrested and hit with similar charges. Rosado had given Rivera the player cards, at which time he used them to play the slots around the casino. Rivera ultimately attempted to claim $1,439 in winnings.

According to official records, the incidents had been taking place for over a month. Police have not stated how they learned of the criminal enterprise taking place in the Sands at Bethlehem. Eighteen player cards had been duplicated and loaded with the fraudulent points.

With the licensure of table games coming to many casinos around the state, bad public relations could be devastating to any of the casinos. There is already an increasing amout of players turning to USA Online Casinos, which means much less business for the land casinos in even in the big cities. Sands Bethlehem has not yet commented on Rosado's employment status, nor his arrest.
