Casino News - January 12th, 2010 - Written By Glen
Indiana has been mulling over the concept of moving riverboat casinos to land based venues, and progress on this concept has begun to move forward. A bill authored by Senator Earline Rogers has been introduced, and could cause a shift in casino location should it pass.
The movement would require a $50 million dollar fee to relocate.
According to a report by the Post-Tribune, the Bill would have the state gaming commission review plans for inland casino construction. As with the Ohio legislation, only certain areas in the state would be entitled to casinos. Casino admission would also be reduced from $4 to $3 dollars.
Last month, it was decided by a state committee that a land based casino would be most beneficial. A casino near I-65 and the Borman Expressway could bring in nearly $11 million dollars in revenue to the state of Indiana.
The casinos in Indiana are expected to take a revenue hit from the creation of casinos within the state of Ohio. These Ohio based casinos could remove over $200 million dollars in gambling revenue in the first year, though Indiana Online Casinos could remain a powerful force in the market.
State legislators will have to bring the new Bill to a vote, though the new piece of legislation is in its infancy. With the $50 million dollar transfer fee, there is debate of whether or not this Bill will be acceptable to any party other than the state.
