Casino News - January 17th, 2010 - Written By Glen
The tirade of anti-gambling enthusiasm in Alabama has taken several twists and turns. Governor Riley's bet with Charlie Crist, governor of Florida, had turned several heads, but a recent development is bound to cause even more uproar, be it a cacophony of ironic laughter or the silent shake of a head.
The commander of Governor Riley's task force on illegal gambling decided to resign from his post. His reason? He had won $2,300 dollars gambling in a Mississippi casino, a legal gambling center outside of the state.
David Barber, task force commander, had left a letter of resignation with the governor on Friday. His resignation coincided with the Alabama Supreme Court's decision to lift a lower circuit's decision that would block a raid against one of the casinos in the state.
The raid was supposed to go down due to the possibility that the bingo machines in the casino were too similar, or in fact are, slot machines. The block had been ordered by local officials, stating that local economy would be impacted to heavily by the raid.
Alabama has recently seen legislative attempts to begin making progress on passing motions that would legalize gambling within the state, removing any possibility of further confusion. Until that time comes, players can always turn to Alabama Online Casinos for their entertainment needs.
