Ohio Casino Laws Continue to Cause Trouble in For Legislators

Casino News - January 21st, 2010 - Written By Glen

casinoIn the later half of 2009, Ohio had been pushing ballots and legislation that would allow for casinos within the state. The casinos were meant to bail Ohio out from failing tax revenue, as well as create jobs in the state carrying one of the highest unemployment rates in the nation. Unfortunately, issues are still arising from the laws that had already passed, and two new bills are currently being crafted in both the House and the Senate.

If the bills are to be approved, they would be added onto the May primary.

These bills stem from the fact that business leaders and those involved in local politics want the Columbus casino relocated. This conflicts with State Issue 3 in that specific addresses were included for the state's four proposed casinos. Any change to the proposal would then require an additional vote cast statewide.

A new amendment had also been added, which states that more casinos could be built instead of those that had already been planned. Any state carrying a population of 70,000 or more would be entitled to vote on whether or not a casino could be built within the city. A local ballot would be required to approve of the additional casino.

While these bills are tentative, and will require approval from the state ballot, many residents have stated that they are tired of contending with delays. One resident, Ted Campbell, stated "The two year projection on casinos doesn't seem likely. All of these delays may keep the goal from coming to fruition." In the mean time, however, players can always utilize Ohio Online Casinos.
