Casino News - January 9th, 2010 - Written By Glen
While many casinos, particularly the larger brands, had shown declining revenues throughout the year of 2009, one Pennsylvania Casino had shown promising records. The Scranton Times Tribune reported that Pennsylvania's Pocono Downs showed large revenue increases throughout the 2009 year.
According to the Scranton Times, the Pocono Downs had a 19 per cent revenue increase. None of the other six casinos in Pennsylvania had showed similar gains. With the oncoming addition of table games to the Mohegan Sun's Pocono Downs, revenue is likely to increase even further.
The data released by the Pennsylvania Gaming Control Board showed that wagering increased to $2.72 billion in 2009, up from $2.13 billion in 2008. Payouts reached heights of $2.47 billion from $1.94 billion, representing nearly 90% of the total money moved through the casino. Gross revenue from the slot terminals pushed $220.8 million, an increase over the previous year's $185.6 million.
A poker room and up to 60 table games are set to be brought into the Mohegan Sun's Pocono Downs. This, the first of the states casino, has proven to be a great success.
Overall, taxes from the state's casinos reached $1 billion dollars in 2009, a 21.6 per cent increase over 2008.
Until a regulatory body is established, Pennsylvania Online Casinos cannot contribute taxes directly to the state or federal governments.
